Building Dreams. Making a Difference.
The inspiration behind Filinvest Development Corporation’s (FDC) every endeavor is its passion to make a difference in the lives of Filipinos. Driven by its vision of fulfilling the Filipino dream, the company consistently undertakes projects and activities that help alleviate the socio-economic conditions of our less fortunate community as part of its corporate social responsibility.
EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Thirty-five years ago, a meaningful partnership between Filinvest and Father Pierre Tritz, founder of ERDA (Education Research and Development Assistance) Foundation, was born out of a common advocacy—to ensure the education of the youth. Through it, Filinvest is given the opportunity to send disadvantaged children to school, helping them realize a brighter future.
ERDA Foundation was founded in 1974 by Fr. Tritz, a Jesuit priest who has dedicated his life to the mission of rescuing impoverished kids through education and skills training. The foundation runs complementary programs such as a pre-school, technical-vocational high school, tertiary scholarships, livelihood developments, and healthcare and shelter for street children and scavengers.
Filinvest supports the foundation’s flagship programs aimed at empowering poor children through education and skills training.
Learning Institutions
Filinvest spearheaded the building of the Gotianun Learning Center in Sabana, Manila, an institution that equips the Sanayan ng mga Batang Nananambakan or the scavengers of Tondo with livelihood skills and provides projects that can help support them in the future.
Also, in cooperation with the Muntinlupa government and local barangays monitoring distressed neighborhoods, the company is involved in continuous efforts to construct and maintain pre-schools and ERDA learning centers in various barangays in Muntinlupa.
The Filinvest Corporate City (FCC) Foundation annually supports the need of all Muntinlupa ERDA scholars for books, school materials, uniforms, transportation, and other miscellaneous expenses of the student.
To coincide with its 50th year celebration in 2005, Filinvest staged its Run for a Child program, a charity run that aimed to help poor Filipino kids have a chance at a brighter future. For every participant, Filinvest pledged support to send a child to school for an entire school year. Filinvest was able to raise Php 2.8 million, an amount that forever changed the lives of elementary and high school scholars of ERDA.
The success of this maiden venture inspired FDC to hold yet another Fun Run in 2009. With the invaluable support of the FDC family, its business partners, and clients, the company raised a sum of Php 5 million, which again brought the less fortunate kids at ERDA Foundation closer to their dream. Together, Filinvest and ERDA continue to build dreams and make a difference, one child at a time.
CALAMITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
Aside from its commitment to help build a better future for Muntinlupa’s children, Filinvest also extends a helping hand to the community in times of calamity and great need.
As 2009’s Typhoon Ondoy left Metro Manila in destruction, the company, through its subsidiaries and the support of management, undertook clean-up operations and provided material assistance to hard-hit areas throughout the metro.
Filinvest donated a total of Php 20 million worth of food, medicine, and clothing materials to more than 10,000 families in the following affected areas: Bagong Silangan, Quezon City; San Mateo, Rizal; Alabang Ilaya, Muntinlupa; Cupang, Marikina; and the evacuation center at the Alabang Elementary School.
Employees of Filinvest Land, Inc. (FLI), a subsidiary of FDC, decided to forgo their annual Christmas party and donate the funds to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) and other families who were directly affected by the calamity.
Meanwhile, EastWest Bank, a subsidiary of FDC in the banking and financial services, donated Php 16 million worth of textile items to flood victims through the ERDA Foundation, Caritas Manila, and ABS-CBN Sagip Foundation.
CHRISTMAS GIFT-GIVING PROGRAM
Filinvest has recently started a tradition of culminating the year with an outreach program to benefit orphaned children. In 2008, the company held an early Christmas celebration at the Bethany House of Sto. Niño Orphanage in Bulacan. In 2010, the wards of Hospicio de San Jose were selected as the beneficiaries.
These programs are opportunities where employees can share their blessings to less fortunate children by way of giving donations in cash and in kind and sharing their time and talents with them.
With the success of its outreach programs and the unfailing support of the employees and management, the company will continue to embark on outreach programs like these in the years to come in an effort to spread the tradition of giving and sharing at Christmas and all throughout the year.
Filinvest will always take its dream-building to heart by nurturing its employees, business partners, clients, and the larger community to where it belongs. Its corporate slogan “We build the Filipino dream” embodies its collective vision—a commitment to which the company has remained true for four decades past and will continue to fulfill for generations to come.
