At FDC, each of our subsidiaries makes it a point to care for the communities where they are present. Common themes within the group include support for educational and environmental initiatives.
In response to the pile-up of trash and plastic in Philippine coastal waters, FLI, FDCUI and the hotels participated in annual coastal clean-up programs where employees helped to clean the shoreline in various locales. FLI continued its annual Keep it Green treeplanting activity while FDCUI committed to support a mangrove rehabilitation program in Villanueva, Misamis Oriental by providing a one-year maintenance and monitoring fund. The hotel group, through CHI, launched an Anti-Plastic Pollution Program which aims to reduce plastic use in the hotels.
Employees of both FLI and FDCUI participated in Brigada Eskwela, a program implemented by the Department of Education nationwide to clean up public schools, making it safe and ready for students. FLI also partnered with two educational institutions, Technical Institute of the Philippines and Jose Rizal University, to provide work immersion programs for their students.
FDCUI has been supporting its host communities in Mindanao through developmental activities such as workshops and training sessions on various topics including entrepreneurship and disaster risk response. It has also engaged the younger members of the community in educational activities such as supporting an interactive exhibit for a science fair in Villanueva as well as actively promoting and preparing potential scholars for the Andrew L. Gotianun Sr. Center for Integrated Technologies (ALGCIT) located in the Xavier University campus in Cagayan de Oro City, Misamis Oriental. ALGCIT is a full-scholarship technical-vocational track senior high school that was endowed by the Andrew Gotianun Foundation (AG Foundation) which aims to provide employable technical skills to its graduates who can immediately join the manufacturing workforce without having to earn a university degree.
FDC continues its advocacy for education through Filinvest Corporate City Foundation, Inc. (FCCFI), which supports scholars under the Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Fr. Pierre Tritz of the Society of Jesus. FCCFI had 600 student beneficiaries for SY2017-2018, bringing to 4,965 the total number of scholarship grants endowed since 2004.
